Bulk import and product reviews

Two unrelated jobs that share a corner of the Products menu: loading many products from a spreadsheet, and moderating what customers wrote about them.

Bulk import

Sidebar → Products → Bulk Import. Accepts Excel (.xlsx or .xls) and CSV.

Start from the template

Sidebar → Products → Bulk Operations first:

• Download General Template — the spreadsheet with the right columns
• Download Category Template — the same, for one category you choose

Always start from the template. Building a spreadsheet yourself means mapping every column by hand, and getting one wrong is how you end up with a hundred products at the wrong price.

Importing

1. Upload the file.
2. Map Columns — match each column in your file to a product field. The template already lines up, so most rows need no thought. Required fields are marked with an asterisk and a counter tells you how many are still missing. Anything you do not need can be set to Skip column.
3. Preview (first 10 rows) — check these before continuing. If the preview looks wrong, the import will be wrong, and there is no undo.
4. Submit.

Empty template rows are dropped automatically, so you can leave the blank rows at the bottom of the sheet.

Plan note: every plan caps how many rows you can import at once. Over the limit, split the file into batches.

Before a large import

Import five products first. Check them on your storefront — prices, categories, images — and only then run the full file. Fixing five rows by hand is an afternoon; fixing five hundred is a week.

Product reviews

Sidebar → Products → Product Reviews.

Plan note: product reviews are a paid feature.

The table shows Customer, Product, Rating, Comment, Status and Date. Filter by status — All Status, Pending, Active, Inactive — and search the text.

For each review you can:

• Mark it Active — it appears on the product page
• Mark it Inactive — it stays in your records but comes off the storefront
• Edit it
• Delete it

Pending is where new reviews wait for you.

Handling reviews honestly

Do not hide every review below five stars. A product page with nothing but perfect scores reads as fake, and shoppers know it. A handful of three- and four-star reviews makes the good ones believable.

Reserve Inactive for reviews that are abusive, contain someone’s personal details, or are obviously about a different product.

If your plan includes it, replying is better than deleting — a complaint you answered well sells more than a complaint you removed.

Common problems

“My import failed with missing columns.” The named fields were not mapped. Go back to the mapping step, or start again from the downloaded template.

“The file would not read.” Save it as .xlsx or .csv. Exports from other systems sometimes use formats the importer cannot open.

“Products imported with no images.” Image columns need a full web address to a reachable image. Upload to the Media Library first if you do not have one.

“I imported at the wrong price.” There is no undo. Use Bulk Operations to download, correct and re-import, or fix them individually.

“I hit my import limit.” Split the file into smaller batches, or see your plan.
